Max Dutton

There are people who influence a room, and then there are people who shape the narrative of an entire community. Max Dutton is one of those voices — a reporter, anchor, storyteller, and communicator whose path took him from leading high school students in youth group to connecting with thousands every morning on the news.

Max is currently the host of Kansas Now and a morning anchor and reporter for KWCH-12 News, one of the central news hubs serving Wichita and the surrounding region. He covers community stories, everyday life, and issues that matter — bringing clarity, heart, and relevance to audiences across Kansas. https://www.kwch.com

Originally from Sterling, a small town in Rice County, Max stayed close to home in his career while expanding his impact. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mass Media at Baker University and was named one of his class’s Outstanding Seniors upon graduation — an early sign of the leadership and commitment that would define his professional life. https://www.kwch.com

Max began his journalism career with KSNT News in Topeka, where he gained experience reporting on major local stories, including worker strikes and investigative coverage that highlighted community concerns. Over time, his skill as a communicator led him back home to Wichita — where he now tells stories about the people and places he grew up around, helping his audience see familiar moments with fresh perspective. https://www.kwch.com

His work has been recognized with Kansas Association of Broadcasters awards, including accolades for anchoring and coverage of major events like the Chiefs parade shooting — affirmations not of self-promotion but of service through storytelling that informs and connects. https://www.catchitkansas.com

Outside the newsroom, Max engages in local theatre, enjoys golf and running, and is known in the community for bringing energy and passion to both his professional and personal pursuits. https://www.kwch.com

For those of us who watched him grow up — especially in youth ministry — seeing Max step into his calling in such a public, influential way has been a powerful reminder of how God prepares each of us through relationship, character, and trust long before the spotlight comes. His journey reflects what many of us hope for our own lives: that our foundational experiences, faith, and community investment prepare us to serve others with clarity and purpose when the opportunity arises.

On this episode of the Load the Wagon Podcast, we sit down with Max to explore:

  • What it was like growing up in community and how those early leadership opportunities shaped his worldview
  • How storytelling in journalism connects with the deeper human story of hope, challenge, and resilience
  • Why everyday narratives matter — and what it means to speak truth lovingly into them
  • The ways faith, identity, and calling have intersected in his life and career

This conversation is not just about news or career success — it’s about purpose, presence, and the courage to engage others through stories that matter. Max’s journey reminds every listener that influence isn’t reserved for the few; it’s built through consistent service, authentic connection, and faithful stewardship of every stage of life.
